About the IACFS -> Events

The principal IACFS event each year is its annual meeting and conference, the format for which is described below. In addition, the IACFS is involved from time to time, directly or indirectly, in a range of other events with a federalism focus. Annual Meeting

One of the Association’s core activities is the annual meeting of the Directors of the Association. The meeting is as a focal point for information exchange and is usually held in conjunction with a major international conference on a theme related to federalism.

The annual meeting provides an opportunity for:

  • a membership meeting;
  • meetings of the permanent working groups;
  • in-depth reports on activities of the host Center or Institute and its surrounding region; and
  • major conference which brings together members and invited participants to discuss a key topic or issue of general interest to students of federalism

The meetings rotate with one member Center or Institute acting as host each year and taking responsibility for the organization of the Directors’ meeting and of the conference and the publication of the conference proceedings.

Other events

From time to time the annual conference may be held in conjunction with other organizations or associations. In particular, meetings have been held from time to time with the International Political Science Association Research Committee on Comparative Federalism and Federation.
